We are seeking dedicated lecturers in psychology who are passionate about their field.
This position is a 12 month full-time role (1.0 FTE) to cover colleagues on parental leave. The position is based at the ACAP Melbourne campus and the successful applicant will be expected to teach on-campus and online. The role may commence either late in 2025 or at the start of 2026.
Lecturers teach undergraduate and Honours psychology courses, and supervise Honours and postgraduate research, depending on qualifications and experience. Lecturers also contribute to the leadership and administration of psychology units and courses. We provide support and training opportunities to develop your skills in the key activities of your role.
Responsibilities include:
- Teaching and marking in psychology units.
- Involvement in the development and review of teaching materials.
- Unit and/or course coordination duties, depending on your level of appointment.
- Supervising Honours and/or postgraduate research projects.
- Conducting scholarly and/or disciplinary research.
- Responding to student enquiries (in person, via email, or via Moodle) in a positive and timely manner.
- Reflecting, utilising feedback, and participating in formal professional development activities to improve your teaching practice.

QualificationsIt is essential for the ideal candidate to meet the following selection criteria:
- Postgraduate qualification in psychology or a cognate discipline
- Demonstrated ability to teach in higher education settings in an area relevant to psychology
- Demonstrated ability to develop teaching materials and coordinate units of study
- Demonstrated ability to conduct research leading to publications in high quality, peer reviewed journals
- Demonstrated ability to supervise student research (Honours and postgraduate level)
- Experience in research methods including research design and analysis
- Administrative experience linked to teaching and research, and the capacity to undertake academic leadership roles
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to engage students in the learning process
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
- Demonstrated computer literacy including competence in using word processing, spreadsheet, and statistical analysis software
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety policies of relevance to the work environment
Desirable criteria:
- PhD in psychology or a cognate discipline
- Demonstrated ability to attract external research funding
- Ability to develop links with external public and private sector organizations
- Experience with a variety of modes of program delivery
- Experience in working effectively with a range of higher education committees and working groups
