Hays Cairns have partnered with a leading supplier of scaffolding solutions to the construction industry. We are currently seeking experienced Leading Hands to join their motivated and high-performing team in Cairns and surrounding areas.

Your new role

Reporting to the Branch Manager, your role will be diverse and hands-on, playing a key part in the daily operations of the yard and warehouse. You will lead a team of permanent and casual staff, ensuring safety, efficiency, and quality across all activities. This is a dynamic role suited to someone with strong leadership skills and a background in construction or industrial supply In this role you will be responsible for the below tasks;
  • Always observe Health and Safety requirements and lead safety practices in line with the company's Safety Management System.
  • Supervise and co-ordinate yard/maintenance staff, ensuring inductions and safe work procedures are followed.
  • Lead maintenance teams to ensure fleet upkeep and supervise staff assisting with maintenance.
  • Oversee inspection and maintenance of re-hired items, ensuring serviceability and correct packaging and booking of returns.
  • Lead daily yard operations including picking/packing for projects, transfers, and timely loading/unloading of transport.
  • Supervise stock control initiatives including monthly checks and sample audits.
  • Liaise with sales and office teams to ensure accurate and timely order fulfilment.
  • Maintain familiarity with company Tech Data Sheets and assist with stocktaking as required.
  • Ensure courteous interaction with customers, drivers, and visitors.
  • Maintain a tidy yard and warehouse, report shortages, and suggest improvements to enhance service quality.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties as directed by management.

What you'll need to succeed

You will have a strong background in construction, warehousing, or industrial supply, with proven experience in leading teams and managing operational tasks. Your ability to work safely, efficiently, and collaboratively will be key to your success Essential requirements:
  • Construction Induction White Card
  • Valid driver's licence
  • Demonstrated experience in team leadership and yard/warehouse operations
  • Forklift licence and practical assessment completion
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols and operational procedures
