About the role
We are seeking a Full time Senior Scientist for a 12-month fixed-term contract to join our dedicated team within Osborne Park.
As Senior Scientist, you will be responsible for providing leadership as a part of the Biochemistry team at the Osborne Park laboratory. This role would be ideal for an experienced Medical Scientist looking to take the next step in their career. You will be a self-motivated individual, who can demonstrate an attention to detail, along with excellent communication skills and a strong focus on outstanding customer service.
About the role
- You will be a role model and assist the Scientist in Charge with ensuring the department is run efficiently and effectively, providing supervision, oversight and support to the team.
- Assist the scientist in charge with staff training, competency assessments, rostering and workflow development.
- Perform method validations and instrument verifications
- Participate in the day to day operations of the lab, performing routine testing on automated chemistry analysers, Quality Control, maintenance of lab equipment and validation of patient results.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation and quality assurance requirements.
- Assist the Scientist in Charge with preparation and participation in internal and external quality audits
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Degree in Laboratory Science or an AIMS accredited equivalent as a minimum.
- Minimum of 3 years recent experience in a diagnostic clinical pathology environment, with specific experience in a Biochemistry department.
- Previous experience in leading a team would be advantageous
- Experience with the NATA accreditation processes is desirable
- Participation with the AACB is highly favourable
- High attention to detail and experience working in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to multitask and successfully work as part of a team.
- The ability to identify and analyse issues, problems and opportunities in a timely and effective manner.
- Exceptional communication, time management & organisational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the team, pathologists, referring Doctors and patients
- The ability to contribute towards the delivery of customer focused services.
- Ability to understand and ensure compliance with WHS policies and guidelines to maintain a safe and healthy workplace.
