What is the role?

The Specialist Protective Command (SPC) deliver a suite of highly specialised, integrated and adaptive aviation, protection and specialist capabilities to deter, respond and resolve threats to protect Australians and Australia's national interests at home and abroad.

SPC Taskforce Fremont

The taskforce engages with a broad range of stakeholders to collate, analyse and produce holistic insights and intelligence which informs whole-of-system decision making to enhance security settings of nominated Commonwealth interests.

The successful candidate will be expected to deliver on core responsibilities and meet any specific role requirements. Operating under broad direction, you will contribute to a cooperative and adaptable environment aligned with the SPC's and AFP strategic objectives.

As a Team Leader in the AFP you will play a pivotal role in developing people, managing change and influencing behaviours that lead to a supportive culture that respects the perspectives, talents and value of each individual. Consistent with the AFP values, AFP leadership philosophy, organisational reform agendas, AFP corporate business plans and your Performance Development Agreement, it is expected that you will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

You will also be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments.

What will you do?

As a Protection Operations Analyst you will:

  • Contribute to collaborative high-level operational and strategic assessments and reports in support of Command objectives.
  • Provide high-level written and verbal protective security advice and briefings to a range of stakeholders.
  • Apply high-level research methods into contemporary protective security issues and trends to inform and influence protective security strategies.
  • Build and sustain relationships with a network of people internally and externally, proactively offering assistance for a mutually beneficial relationship, and anticipating and being responsive to internal and external client needs.
  • Maintain currency in protective security concepts and methods through ongoing professional development and learning opportunities, both internal and external to the AFP.
  • Maintain knowledge and situational awareness of contemporary social and political issues likely to resonate in the protective security threat environment.
Essential Requirements
  • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Have experience in protective security methodology, including a strong comprehension of threat and risk concepts.
  • Ability to assess security risk information in a fast paced, complex and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to engage, cooperate and collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Strong awareness of the political landscape and its influence on security risk.
  • A demonstrated ability to coach and mentor others.
  • Demonstrated ability to build team capability through positive business culture guidance, mentoring and leadership.
  • Ability to lead, coordinate and deliver high quality protective security assessments and analytical advice to relevant stakeholders.
Desirable Requirements

The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a security or intelligence-related field or research discipline.
  • Experience within the National and/or Protective Security environment.
Additional Information
  • This role is located in Canberra and applicants are expected to be based in Canberra.
  • This role attracts a composite allowance in recognition of expanded working hours, normal patterns of attendance and shift patterns (such as afternoon shifts, weekends and Designated Public Holidays) that are required under the Operations working pattern. In accordance with the AFP Enterprise Agreement, an employee who is required to work in accordance with the Operations working pattern will receive a Core Composite of 22% in addition to their base salary, which will count as salary for superannuation. The Commissioner has the authority to remove a composite from a role.
  • This role is an AFP Broadband 6-7 (Intelligence) level.
