We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Development Assessment Officer to join our team—someone who shares our commitment to delivering outstanding service and who is passionate about making a real difference in the lives of our residents.

About the role 


This is an exciting opportunity for a driven professional to join our Development Assessment team, renowned for its high standards in customer care and planning excellence. This role is central to our ongoing planning success and to enhancing our reputation for positive, responsive, and solution-focused service. 
 

The demand for development assessments in our area has increased by 30% since 2016, reflecting the trust placed in us by our community. This role is vital in helping us not only meet but exceed these expectations, ensuring we deliver the highest standards of customer service at every interaction.

As a Development Assessment Officer, you will help guide the city's growth by ensuring that development outcomes align with the City's Local Environmental Plans, Development Control Plans, and vision for a thriving Parramatta. Your ability to provide clear, respectful, and responsive service will be crucial as you protect the public interest, champion improvements, and contribute to efficient and effective planning services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and participate in pre-lodgement meetings with applicants and stakeholders, providing guidance with professionalism and care.
  • Manage and assess applications via the NSW Planning Portal Gateway, ensuring a seamless and customer-friendly process
  • Process Development Applications, always striving to deliver high-quality planning advice and exceptional customer service at every step.
  • Serve as Duty Planner, responding promptly and helpfully to enquiries, and consistently offering outstanding customer support and planning advice.
  • Project manage development applications with efficiency, always mindful of stakeholder expectations and the importance of courteous communication.
  • Prepare and present thorough, high-quality written reports, ensuring clarity and accessibility for all stakeholders.
  • Identify complex development issues and provide solutions, demonstrating your commitment to serving the community's interests.
     

About You 

The successful candidate should have demonstrated experience in the assessment, management, and processing of Development Applications in diverse environments, always with a customer-first approach.

You will also bring:

  • Strong ability to produce clear, high-quality written reports for a variety of audiences.
  • Experience with the NSW Planning Portal Gateway, pre-lodgement meetings, and Duty Planner responsibilities, with a focus on positive customer interactions, is highly regarded.

Qualifications

  • Hold a degree in Town Planning or a related field.
  • Possess a current Class C Drivers Licence.

What's on offer
We offer a competitive total remuneration package ranging from $104,610 to $115,174 per annum, plus 12% superannuation.
