The Role

We're looking for an exceptional sales leader to establish PlayHQ's presence across Australia and New Zealand. As our first Head of Sales for ANZ, you'll start as an individual contributor building our entire sales operation from the ground up while driving partnerships with sporting organisations at every level.

Your mission: Lead revenue acquisition efforts that exceed targets while establishing PlayHQ as the essential platform for community sport across the region.

This is currently an individual contributor role with significant scope for team building and territory expansion. For the right candidate, there's potential to extend reach across the broader APAC region as we scale.

Working in a hybrid environment, you'll split your time between strategic relationship building with major sporting bodies and hands-on business development across thousands of grassroots clubs.

What You'll Be Doing:

Revenue Leadership

  • Drive monthly recurring revenue, customer acquisition, and partnership targets across the ANZ region
  • Build and manage enterprise sales pipeline with sporting governing bodies and major associations
  • Lead complex negotiations and RFP responses for high-value strategic partnerships
  • Develop pricing strategies and deal structures for diverse sporting organisations

Sales Operations Development

  • Establish outbound and field sales capabilities from the ground up
  • Create scalable sales processes, systems, and reporting frameworks
  • Build data-driven sales approach focused on throughput, processes, and measurable results
  • Develop territory plans and go-to-market strategies for different sporting segments

Strategic Relationship Management

  • Engage with major sporting bodies including AFL, NRL, Cricket Australia, Rugby Australia, and Olympic sports federations
  • Build relationships with state and territory sporting organisations
  • Partner with regional associations, local clubs, and sporting facilities
  • Navigate complex stakeholder environments including government and quasi-government entities

Grassroots Business Development

  • Conduct outbound prospecting and cold calling to community clubs and local sporting associations
  • Execute field sales activities including on-site demonstrations and relationship building
  • Manage high-volume sales activities alongside strategic enterprise deals
  • Build awareness of PlayHQ across thousands of local clubs through direct outreach and networking

Market Intelligence & Product Input

  • Conduct market analysis and competitive intelligence gathering
  • Provide customer feedback to inform global product roadmap decisions
  • Identify growth opportunities within and beyond existing sporting markets
  • Lead customer success initiatives to maximize platform adoption and retention

What you need to thrive in this role:

  • Enterprise SaaS Expertise: 5+ years of proven success in complex B2B sales with consistent track record of exceeding revenue targets and managing long sales cycles
  • Startup and scaleup experience: Experience working in a fast paced scaling environment
  • Market Development Experience: Proven ability to build sales operations from scratch including establishing new territories, creating scalable processes, and launching market presence
  • Stakeholder Management: Experience navigating complex decision-making processes involving multiple stakeholders, particularly in government, quasi-government, or sporting contexts
  • Leadership Capability: Track record of building and leading high-performing teams in start-up or scale-up environments
  • Data-Driven Approach: Strong analytical skills with experience in subscription-based revenue models and performance optimization
  • Be able to talk sports

  • Established network within ANZ sporting ecosystem
  • Experience with sporting governing bodies, associations, or major clubs
  • Track record selling to government or quasi-government organisations
  • Understanding of community sport challenges and volunteer-driven environments
  • Experience in building enterprise partnerships and strategic alliances
