About the role
We're seeking a passionate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Liaison Officerto join our Disability Gateway Partnerships and Engagement team
You'll promote the Disability Gateway across community, enhancing its accessibility and cultural safety for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, carers, and families. You'll build trusted relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, communities, and leaders while representing the service at community events, expos, and gatherings.
This role offers the opportunity to travel interstate, meet new people, and make a genuine impact across diverse communities.
Duties
- Travel within the community and interstate to promote the Disability Gateway Service
- Work flexibly as required, including occasional weekends or after-hours for various events.
- Engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-controlled organisations and other key stakeholders to build referral pathways and promote the Disability Gateway.
- Develop, nurture, and maintain genuine partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, leaders, and organisations across Australia.
- Develop community networks in targeted communities.
- Coordinate and attend local meetings, community consultations, advisory groups and events, and support community partner events.
- Conduct culturally tailored information sessions for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, carers, and families.
- Advocate for culturally safe practices and contribute to the design and implementation of community engagement strategies.
- Contribute to the design and delivery of community engagement and partnership strategies.
- Proactively collaborate with the program leadership team to support cultural competency within the team and foster an inclusive and culturally sensitive work environment.

Skills and Experience
To excel in this role, you should have the following skills and experience:
- A current Australian driver's licence and willingness to travel as required.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to build rapport and influence outcomes.
- Strong computer literacy skills to support remote work, deliver effective presentations, and facilitate stakeholder engagement online.
- Confidence working both independently and collaboratively, with a proactive, enthusiastic, and approachable nature.
- Recognition from within the community as a respected, culturally safe person.
- Existing relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Organisations across multiple states and broad catchment areas.
- Demonstrated respectful approach to working with community, Traditional Owners and Elders.
- Demonstrated experience in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander partnerships and engagement.
- Demonstrated track record of development and achievement of successful partnership outcomes.
- Ability to develop effective new networks and productive relationships with community, organisations, agencies, government, and other stakeholders.
- As this is an Identified role, confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage is required.
