Mornington Shire Council is looking for a Senior Carriage Officer to complement and support the administration and control of alcohol services for the Mornington Island

The Mornington Shire Council is a Local Government Authority providing range of services to the twenty-three islands of the Wellesley Group located 125kms north-west of Burketown, 200kms west of Karumba and 444kms from Mount Isa, in the southern section of the Gulf of Carpentaria, residing within the State of Queensland. The island is 2.5 hours flight from Cairns.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with carriage limit regulations, manage data and reporting, supervise carriage staff, provide expert advice to the Director Hospitality and Accommodation, while maintaining efficient and effective processes that support the organisations operational goals.

  • Operating the Council's point-of-sale system to handle payments from customers.

  • Provide customer service such as taking orders from customers.
  • Stock control and restocking of alcoholic and other beverages.
  • Uploading of delivered goods from the barge
  • Assist in planning tavern nights and staff scheduling
  • Serving alcohol at the carriage limit and the tavern.
  • Ensure compliance with carriage limit regulations, policies and procedures
  • Follow reporting procedures in the event of an incident/accident.
  • Any other duties as directed by the Director Accommodation and Hospitality.

Desired Qualifications and personal attributes

  • Certificate III or IV in Hospitality, logistics or equivalent
  • A RMLV Licence.
  • Demonstrated experience in the hospitality industry
  • Outgoing, positive attitude and enthusiasm for working with the public.
  • Knowledge of Australian Standard of Food Safety Practices and general requirements.
  • Responsible Service of Alcohol certificates.
  • Forklift licence.
  • Previous experience working in an aboriginal community.
  • Local government experience
