Are you passionate about building strong, respectful connections with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities? In this role you will work closely with Aboriginal communities and Council in determining their approach to being prepared for emergencies, responding when required and providing direction for relief and recovery. As a trusted facilitator you will strengthen community resilience through meaningful engagement, knowledge-sharing, and capacity-building.

The Opportunity
As the Aboriginal Partnerships Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the Community Resilience and Emergency Management Team. You will help build community capacity by sharing information and knowledge, strengthening connections, and engaging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
You will :
- Build and strengthen partnerships with Aboriginal organisations, Elders, community members, and key stakeholders.
- Engage and consult with Aboriginal communities on issues, decisions, and policies that affect them.
- Support community resilience and emergency management through planning, exercising, and evaluating response, relief, and recovery initiatives.
- Share knowledge and build community capacity to empower Aboriginal communities in emergency preparedness and response.
- Assist with high-priority actions and initiatives as directed by the Coordinator, Community Resilience.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure inclusive, culturally appropriate engagement and outcomes.
Things You're Proud Of (Key Selection Criteria)
- Sound knowledge of Aboriginal culture and understanding of current social and community issues affecting local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in East Gippsland.
- Understanding of community development principles and experience in planning for emergencies with communities.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively, building respectful relationships with a wide range of people.
- Understanding of local government roles and functions.

If successful, you will need to undertake a police check and attain an employee type Working with Children Check.
