Are you passionate about supporting young people as they navigate their future pathways? MLC is seeking an innovative, energetic, and technically savvy Career Development Practitioner to join our dynamic Careers team. In this pivotal role, you will provide expert guidance and personalised support to students in Middle and Senior School, helping them make confident, informed decisions about their future.
About the Role
As a Career Development Practitioner, you will play a pivotal role in delivering career education and providing personalised counselling to students and parents. Your expertise will assist students in making informed decisions about their future studies and career pathways, including VCE, IB, VET, university applications, and employment opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide career counselling and guidance to students across Middle and Senior School.
- Deliver engaging career education programs in collaboration with the Careers team.
- Support Year 10 students through subject selection and work experience programs.
- Assist Year 11 and 12 students with career interviews and tertiary applications.
- Research and communicate national and international tertiary course opportunities.
- Organise and participate in careers events, information sessions, and workshops.
- Liaise with tertiary institutions, industry professionals, and career networks to provide up-to-date insights for students.
- Ensure compliance with MLC's Child Safety and Wellbeing policies.
About You
- A Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, or Master's in Career Education/Development.
- Strong counselling and communication skills.
- The ability to build rapport with students and parents.
- Public speaking and presentation skills.
- Knowledge of VCE, IB, VET, and tertiary entrance procedures (VTAC and beyond).
- Event coordination experience.
- Proficiency with career development technologies and databases.
- A current Working with Children Check and understanding of Victorian Child Safe Standards.
Desirable Criteria:
- Previous experience in a school-based careers role.
- Familiarity with international tertiary pathways.
- An understanding of student transition challenges.
