Volunteer and Operations Coordinator
Help keep Tasmania's maritime stories alive. We are seeking a capable, people-centred coordinator to lead our volunteer program and keep day-to-day operations running smoothly across the Museum, Semaphore Cottage, and our heritage vessels.
You will roster and support more than 100 volunteers, while overseeing the logistics that make the Museum welcoming and safe for visitors. You will also coordinate group bookings and school visits, and help deliver events and after-hours functions.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate the end-to-end volunteer lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, recognition and communication
- Build positive, respectful relationships with volunteers and staff, and foster a supportive team culture
- Manage daily operations, including visitor services, front-of-house coverage and basic facilities coordination
- Oversee group and school bookings, including communications, schedules, risk documentation and onsite logistics
- Support events and programs, including evening functions as required
- Maintain WHS and safeguarding practices, incident reporting and compliance registers
- Liaise with suppliers and partners, and assist with heritage vessel maintenance days where logistics support is needed
- Monitor simple operational budgets, petty cash and point-of-sale processes
About you
- Experience coordinating volunteers in a community, cultural or not-for-profit setting preferred
- Strong organisational skills with confidence in rostering, scheduling and on-the-day problem solving
- Warm, professional communicator who can motivate diverse teams and handle sensitive situations with care
- Comfortable working hands-on in a small team where no two days are the same
- Sound judgement on WHS and child safety requirements for public programs and school groups
- Competent with common office tools and basic booking or POS systems
- Relevant checks such as Working with Vulnerable People, National Police Check, First Aid and an RSA are desirable or can be obtained upon appointment.
- Candidates must have Australian work authorisation to be eligible for this position
What we offer
· A purposeful role at the heart of a respected community museum
· Varied, practical work with real impact on visitor experience
· Permanent part-time hours – 30 hours / 5 days / week
