Highpoint Access & Rescue is looking for an accomplished, down-to-earth Finance Controller who can strengthen the financial foundation of this growing specialist services business — and step confidently into a future CFO role. This is a hands-on, high-impact role for someone who loves both numbers and people, and who can balance day-to-day financial accuracy with forward-thinking analysis and strategic insight.

About the BusinessHighpoint Access & Rescue is a Rockhampton-based business providing technical industrial services across Queensland — including rope access, confined space rescue, height safety systems, and industrial training.
Led by owners Rob and Liz Stringer, Highpoint is a values-led company with a strong reputation in safety and a deep sense of responsibility to their clients and team. The business is entering a growth phase, including the implementation of new systems, a developing leadership structure, and readiness for sustainable scaling. *About You*You're an experienced finance professional who enjoys meaningful, hands-on work, and you thrive in SMEs where you can shape processes, support people, and bring clarity to owners and teams. Your approach is calm, thoughtful, and practical, and you understand how finance drives operational success.
Your New RoleAs the Finance Controller, you will strengthen and streamline the financial function across the business, ensuring robust compliance, clear reporting, reliable forecasting, and practical commercial insight. Working closely with the owners, you'll oversee key financial processes, improve systems, support growth initiatives, and mentor the Finance Assistant.
This role is designed to evolve, giving you the opportunity to progressively step into the CFO role as the business continues to scale.
What You'll Bring- CPA, CA, or relevant tertiary qualification
- Proven experience in a similar role with responsibility for financial management, compliance, reporting, and management accounting.
- Background in SMEs or hands-on operational environments (industrial/technical services desirable)
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate financial information for owners and operational teams
- High attention to detail, disciplined governance, and ability to manage competing priorities
- A grounded, practical and a collaborative working style.
1. Financial Compliance & Reporting
Purpose: Ensure strong financial integrity, accurate reporting, and robust compliance across the business.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee statutory compliance, BAS, PAYG and regulatory reporting
- Maintain disciplined financial controls and governance
- Ensure accurate, timely monthly and quarterly reporting
- Oversee AP/AR processing, payroll compliance, and reconciliations
- Manage budgeting cycles and support cashflow planning
- Work with external accountants to deliver high-quality financial packs
Purpose: Provide financial insight and analysis that guides strategic decisions and supports future growth.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver forecasting, modelling, and long-term planning
- Analyse financial and operational data to support decision-making
- Contribute to acquisition analysis and due diligence
- Support planning for business expansion and capital decisions
- Prepare clear financial insights for leadership meetings
Purpose: Strengthen the connection between finance and operations through improved systems and streamlined processes.
Responsibilities:
- Integrate financial workflows with operational delivery teams
- Support system improvements, including future ERP implementation
- Reduce manual processes and improve data accuracy
- Enhance financial visibility for project, production, and operations teams
- Collaborate with the Operations Manager and admin team on cross-functional processes
Purpose: Build internal financial capability and support a strong, collaborative, high-performance team culture.
Responsibilities:
- Mentor and upskill the Finance Assistant
- Provide clear leadership within the finance function
- Work closely with owners, operational leaders and admin staff
- Support uplift of financial literacy across the business
- Foster a culture of calm, clarity, and continuous improvement
Purpose: Strengthen commercial outcomes by ensuring the business has the financial insight it needs to operate profitably.
Responsibilities:
- Support pricing decisions, margin understanding, and job costing
- Assist with progress claims, WIP, and pipeline budgeting
- Provide commercial recommendations to improve financial outcomes
- Contribute to board reporting and financial discussions
