About the Opportunity

Quality Project Officer ensures scientific integrity at FSSA through quality practices, method validation and risk management. This role is focused primarily on ensuring that scientific services are appropriately validated and comply with all quality assurance and control practices at FSSA, across a diverse range of forensic disciplines which utilize unique and specialist skills and techniques

About the Business

Forensic Science SA (FSSA) provides a comprehensive, coordinated range of services to agencies associated with the justice system including the State Coroner, South Australia Police (SAPOL), the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and defence and civil litigants.

We are part of the Attorney General's Department and the Director, FSSA reports to the Executive Director, Finance, People & Performance.

Within FSSA there are four scientific/medico-legal operational areas: Pathology, Chemistry, Biology and Toxicology, each analysing materials using a diverse range of scientific equipment and processes.

The operational areas are supported by Administration, Information Technology and Projects, Science Support and Quality, who each provide underpinning services in support of the operational areas.

Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be provided further information if an interview is requested. Forms are not to be lodged directly with SA Police (SAPOL) under any circumstances and any fees incurred by applicants in doing so will not be recoverable from the AGD.

Some out of hours work may be required.

Some interstate and intrastate travel may be required.

A relevant degree in science Demonstrated experience in the leadership of people in a scientific environment.

Ability to lead teams comprising of professional and technical staff in large or complex environments.

Experience in relationship management, client negotiation and provision of high-quality service.

Experience in developing, implementing and reviewing policies and procedures relating to a scientific laboratory.
