The Position
The Research Coordinator plays a key role in a friendly, motivated team, providing analytical and interpretive expertise in zinc ores, including Ge, Ga, In, and Cd. This position is integral to delivering and supporting research on the trace elemental composition of ZnS (sphalerite) deposits across Australia—where no two days are the same. Working closely with the lead researcher, the role contributes to designing and implementing research directions, coordinating both qualitative and quantitative studies, managing data collection and analysis, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and ethics requirements. The Research Coordinator will prepare research profiles, literature reviews, and reports, present findings to stakeholders, and manage complex databases. The role also involves sourcing research materials, liaising with a wide range of stakeholders, and mentoring junior staff. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to impactful, nationally significant research while developing strong networks across the University and industry.
The Person
The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in geochemistry and have strong geochemical analytical experience, ideally with expertise in zinc ores and associated trace elements. You will demonstrate exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a track record of producing high-quality research papers, progress reports, and professional correspondence. Strong interpersonal skills are essential, including the ability to mentor and supervise staff, and to consult effectively with stakeholders from diverse cultural backgrounds. You will be highly organised, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities while delivering accurate, timely outcomes both independently and in a team environment. Advanced computer skills are required, including proficiency in MS Office (particularly Excel), experience with research database design and management, and the use of information systems to generate complex reports. Experience with statistical software such as R, SAS, or SPSS, and bibliographic tools like EndNote, will be highly regarded.
