About the role

Anatomical Pathology is seeking a conscientious, hardworking, dedicated individual to join our dynamic multi-skilled team that works together to provide great care, everywhere, every time.

The Laboratory Assistant is required to perform a variety of duties to assist and support the smooth management of the Anatomical Pathology department. Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Theatre and Epworth Eastern specimen pick-ups.

• Data entry into the Laboratory Information System.

• Answering laboratory phone calls, attending to paperwork & e-mails.

• Mortuary duties and releasing deceased to Funeral Directors.

• Retrieve slides and blocks from Distribution Centre in Ringwood.

• Prepare slides and reports for multidisciplinary meetings.

• Slide and block filing.

• Basic Equipment maintenance.

• Inventory and storage of consumables.

• Release of waste chemicals and transfer of chemicals to the laboratory.

About you

To be successful in this role you should possess:

• Victorian Certificate of Education or equivalent.
• Previous experience in a Pathology laboratory would be an advantage.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Able to prioritize workload and work under pressure.

Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.
