Role Detail

At King & Wood Mallesons (KWM), we're shaping the future of law — combining deep local insight with a global perspective to deliver bold solutions for our clients' most complex challenges.  We're looking for an experienced and strategic Head of Corporate Affairs to lead our external communications and brand amplification across Australia and Singapore.

You will play a pivotal role in promoting and protecting the firm's reputation through sophisticated public relations, media engagement, strategic storytelling and thought leadership initiatives.

You will lead a talented team to deliver high-impact communication campaigns that elevate our brand, increase our share of voice, and connect our expertise with the issues that matter most to our clients.

Reporting to the Director of Communications, Global, and working closely with senior leaders across Business Development and Marketing, this role is ideal for a senior communications professional who thrives in a complex, intellectually stimulating environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing market profiling plans for the firm's core sectors and practice areas
  • Overseeing the day-to-day execution of the firm's media engagement strategy, including:

- Building and maintaining relationships with tier-one media outlets

- Converting media opportunities into meaningful brand-building coverage

- Preparing Executive Team members and senior stakeholders for media engagement

- Coaching team members on the art of pitching

  • Playing a key role in designing and delivering end to end thought leadership campaigns including:

- Identification of topical issues/themes/ trends

- Shaping engaging narratives

- Campaign management

- Stakeholder engagement

- Editorial guidance.

  • Supporting best practice crisis communications and issues management approaches.
  • Acting as a trusted adviser, providing strategic guidance to senior stakeholders
  • Leading and developing a high-performing communications team through coaching direct reports and members of the broader team
  • Building on the internal and external reputation of the KWM Corporate Affairs and broader Communications team
  • Measuring and reporting on the performance of our external communications tactics
  • Supporting the Director of Communications, Global in the development and execution of communication strategies, initiatives and other projects from time to time, providing insights and recommendations to enhance effectiveness and engagement

About You

Offering interesting and challenging work, with exposure to smart and creative people, this will suit an experienced communications leader with a natural curiosity about the commercial world.  You will have exposure to some of the biggest deals in Australia, with a front row seat at how the impact of the law, with guidance from a top tier law firm, can have a positive effect on businesses; the economy; the community; and geopolitical landscape.

With proven leadership experience, and bringing an excellence without arrogance ethos, you will also need:

  • Strong understanding of and interest in the economic and business issues in Australia and Asia
  • Excellent business writing and ability to translate complex concepts into plain language
  • Demonstrated ability to execute multifaceted communication campaigns
  • Proven ability to build credibility and influence at the highest levels, providing strategic advice and guidance to senior stakeholders, executive teams and boards as a trusted advisor.
  • Experience leading and motivating a team with varied skillsets and experience
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and role model for fellow members of the team
  • Project management and time management skills
