The BCCC is an independent body that monitors compliance with the Banking Code of Practice (the Code).
The BCCC is made up of an independent Chair, a banking industry representative and a consumer representative. The role of the BCCC is to monitor Code compliance and promote best practice Code implementation to improve standards of service in the Australian banking industry – ultimately helping banks to create a better banking experience for customers.
To improve banks' code compliance the BCCC:

- identifies and prioritises industry wide, serious and systemic issues
- recommends improvements to bank practices
- sanctions banks for serious compliance failures, and

The BCCC's day-to-day work is supported by a secretariat at the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA). The secretariat provides operational and administrative support under a service agreement between the Australian Banking Association (ABA) and AFCA. This agreement, along with the BCCC Charter protects the independence of the BCCC's governance, processes and decision-making.
Job DescriptionThe Banking Code Compliance Committee (BCCC) is currently seeking to appoint an Independent Chair, to lead the Committee, for a fixed term of three years with the option for re-appointment.
Typically, in this role you will:
- Lead the BCCC in fulfilling its responsibilities under the Code and Charter, ensuring it functions effectively.
- Set the agenda and preside over BCCC meetings.
- Facilitate productive, focused and orderly discussions and decision-making, allowing all members to contribute and be heard.
- Be the liaison between the BCCC and the Code secretariat's management team.
- Represent the BCCC externally at industry events, conferences, stakeholder meetings or in the media.
- Act as the principal point of contact for stakeholders including the ABA, AFCA, and regulators including ASIC, APRA and AUSTRAC.
We welcome applications from candidates across Australia.
QualificationsTo be successful in this role, you'll come equipped with:
- Relevant experience and demonstrated success in senior leadership roles, particularly in governance, regulatory, or compliance-focused positions in industry, commerce, law, public administration or government service.
- Proven track record of leading boards, committees, or similar governance bodies, with an emphasis on independent oversight and ethical decision-making.
