The BCCC is an independent body that monitors compliance with the Banking Code of Practice (the Code).

The BCCC is made up of an independent Chair, a banking industry representative and a consumer representative. The role of the BCCC is to monitor Code compliance and promote best practice Code implementation to improve standards of service in the Australian banking industry – ultimately helping banks to create a better banking experience for customers.

To Improve Banks' Code Compliance The BCCC

The BCCC's day-to-day work is supported by a secretariat at the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA). The secretariat provides operational and administrative support under a service agreement between the Australian Banking Association (ABA) and AFCA. This agreement, along with the BCCC Charter protects the independence of the BCCC's governance, processes and decision-making.

The Banking Code Compliance Committee (BCCC) is currently seeking to appoint an Independent Chair, to lead the Committee, for a fixed term of three years with the option for re-appointment.

Typically, In This Role You Will

  • Lead the BCCC in fulfilling its responsibilities under the Code and Charter, ensuring it functions effectively.
  • Set the agenda and preside over BCCC meetings.
  • Facilitate productive, focused and orderly discussions and decision-making, allowing all members to contribute and be heard.
  • Be the liaison between the BCCC and the Code secretariat's management team.
  • Represent the BCCC externally at industry events, conferences, stakeholder meetings or in the media.
  • Act as the principal point of contact for stakeholders including the ABA, AFCA, and regulators including ASIC, APRA and AUSTRAC.

We welcome applications from candidates across Australia.

  • Extensive experience in engaging and managing relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and experience of financial services markets, particularly banking, would be desirable.
  • Confident and superior communication to effectively represent the work of the BCCC in a range of events and forums.
