Monash Health is a great place to work

Monash Health is Victoria's largest and most comprehensive health service. For more than 170 years, Monash Health and its predecessors have provided safe, high-quality healthcare and service for people at every life stage. To see first-hand what our colleagues think about working here, take a look at the following short videos:

Embark on a rewarding career and be part of a team where your dedication makes a difference in people's lives.

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced, values-driven Grade 3 Social Worker to join our Adult Inpatient Unit (Unit 1) at Dandenong Hospital, a dynamic part of Monash Health's Mental Health Program. In this senior role, you'll provide high-quality, client-centred social work services to adults experiencing acute mental health challenges.

You'll play a key role in:

  • Conducting complex psychosocial assessments
  • Delivering targeted therapeutic interventions
  • Advocating for client rights
  • Coordinating discharge planning and community liaison
  • Providing clinical supervision and mentoring to junior staff and students

You'll work collaboratively with a passionate multidisciplinary team, including medical, nursing, allied health, and lived experience professionals, while also building strong partnerships with key external stakeholders such as Child Protection, Housing Services, Centrelink, and Family Violence services.

This is a fast-paced, rewarding position requiring flexibility, a deep understanding of trauma-informed care, and a passion for recovery-focused mental health practice.

About Us

Monash Health is Victoria's largest public health service, delivering high-quality care to over one million people in the southeast region of Melbourne. Our Mental Health Program spans inpatient, community, and specialist services across five LGAs – Casey, Cardinia, Greater Dandenong, Kingston, and Monash.

Unit 1 – Dandenong Adult Inpatient Unit is a 25-bed acute mental health ward providing timely and evidence-based interventions for consumers in crisis. The team operates with a strong commitment to recovery, family-inclusive practice, and holistic care.

About You

You're a highly motivated Social Worker with significant experience in mental health or related fields. You're confident working with complex psychosocial issues like family violence, housing insecurity, substance use, and child protection. You thrive in a collaborative environment and have a proven track record of making meaningful contributions to multidisciplinary teams.

You're also a leader – able to supervise, mentor, and guide junior colleagues and students, while engaging in ongoing quality improvement and service development initiatives.

To be considered, you must have:

  • AASW-accredited Bachelor or entry-level Master of Social Work (or overseas equivalent with AASW recognition)
  • Minimum 7 years post-qualifying experience
  • Eligibility for or current AASW membership
  • Postgraduate qualification (or working toward) in a relevant field (e.g., Family Therapy, Mental Health, Advanced Social Work) – highly desirable
  • Current Police Check and Employee Working with Children Check (or willing to obtain)

In Return

As a valued member of the Monash Health team, you'll have access to a wide range of benefits designed to support your wellbeing, development, and career progression, including:

  • Salary packaging – increase your take-home pay with generous salary packaging options.
  • Professional development – access to ongoing training, education, and leadership opportunities to support your career growth.
  • Supportive team environment – work within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team that values innovation, compassion, and excellence.
  • Employee wellbeing – benefit from a comprehensive Employee Assistance Program (EAP), staff wellbeing initiatives, and a strong focus on work-life balance.
  • Career mobility – opportunities to work across Victoria's largest public health service with a wide range of roles and career pathways.
  • Diverse and inclusive workplace – join an organisation that celebrates and embraces diversity and fosters a culture of respect and belonging.

At Monash Health, you'll be making a difference in the lives of individuals and communities while advancing your career in a leading healthcare organisation.
