About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Peer Worker to join the Southern Dual Diagnosis Service (SDDS), part of Monash Health's Drug and Alcohol Services.

This part-time role (0.8 EFT) is offered as a fixed-term contract until 30 June 2027, and is delivered in partnership with Harm Reduction Victoria (HRVic) and the Association of Participating Service Users (APSU) under the Reducing Harmful Drug Use through Peer Led Networks (RHDUPLN) initiative.

In this role, you will use your lived or living experience of mental health challenges and/or alcohol and other drug (AOD) use to:

  • Support services working with individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use challenges.

  • Build capacity across sectors to better meet the needs of dual diagnosis consumers.

  • Provide training, harm reduction support, brief interventions, and relapse prevention strategies.

  • Collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, both internal and external, to improve integrated service delivery.

  • Contribute to shared learning and strengthen lived experience workforce capability across systems.

Your work will be based primarily in Dandenong, with travel to other Monash Health and community sites across the southern metropolitan region of Melbourne.

About Us

The Southern Dual Diagnosis Service (SDDS) is a specialist team within Monash Health that works to build capacity in services supporting individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. The team provides education, primary and secondary consultation, and promotes the implementation of integrated care models aligned with the Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System.

Working with clinical mental health services, AOD providers, housing agencies, and other community services across the Southern Metropolitan Region, SDDS plays a critical role in supporting systems to deliver collaborative, recovery-oriented care.

About You

You're someone with personal lived or living experience in the mental health and/or AOD space, and you're passionate about using that experience to support and advocate for others. You are:

  • Grounded in harm reduction principles and a person-centred approach.

  • Skilled in communication, engagement, and collaboration across services and communities.

  • Comfortable working in a multidisciplinary team and adaptable to changing environments.

  • Committed to building a stronger, more inclusive lived experience workforce.

  • Motivated to share your journey in a way that inspires hope, connection, and positive change.

You also bring:

  • A positive, compassionate, and non-judgemental attitude.

  • A strong understanding of dual diagnosis challenges from both lived and systemic perspectives.

  • A dedication to safe, high-quality care and continuous service improvement.

  • A commitment to Monash Health's Strategic Guiding Principles.

In Return
