The Role
The Financial Reporting and Treasury team is responsible for external monthly and annual reporting of financial information, preparation of Financial Statements, Debt Management, liaison with the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) and treasury functions including drawdowns and receipting of funds. The team also provides accounting advice and assistance to business areas within the department.
As a Director – Financial Reporting and Treasury at the Department of Education, you will shape and deliver the accurate and timely preparation of the department's financial statements and reports to the Department of Finance, provide expertise on financial accounting matters, manage debt accounting activities and ensure the department meets its tax obligations. The role will also ensure the accurate provision of Treasury and Taxation services, including appropriation management, bank account management, funds management, cash drawdowns and transfers. The Director will bring strong technical experience and strategic thinking and be comfortable working across a broad program of work, to shape policy and decision making. The role will foster a strong team culture and demonstrate the ability to engage and influence stakeholders and senior leaders to drive accounting initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities
In this role, your responsibilities will include the following:
- Shape financial reporting and treasury initiatives, and play a critical role in driving their successful implementation across the department to achieve strategic objectives and outcomes
- Facilitate an inclusive and positive team culture, provide strong leadership, and support team members in enhancing their capability and professional development, while ensuring employee engagement and wellbeing
- Provide strategic guidance and oversight on financial, debt management and taxation advice, policies, procedures and legislation, share expertise and proactively identify and address emerging issues
- Engage with senior leaders and key stakeholders to ensure financial reporting and treasury initiatives are well-integrated, support business objectives, and enhance financial outcomes
- Ensure accurate financial reporting and the provision of evidence-based data to the executive on key initiatives within this role, to support informed decision making and strategic planning
- Manage risk and provide assurance regarding compliance with legislative, policy and financial requirements.
Qualifications and Education
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or Commerce (Mandatory)
- Completed professional qualifications (CPA/CA) (Mandatory)

Eligibility
