- Burnett Mary Region location
- Full-time | Fixed-term contract to 30 June 2028
- Lead the engagement and data coordination behind BMRG's Cool Burn Squad project.
Do you want your work to support Indigenous-led land management and deliver real environmental outcomes across Queensland?
We're looking for a motivated and detail-oriented professional to join the Burnett Mary Regional Group (BMRG) as a Engagement & Data Coordinator for our Cool Burn Squad, a multi-year initiative restoring healthy Country through Traditional fire management.
You'll be the link between community, culture, and science, helping to plan and deliver engagement activities, while designing and managing systems that capture the project's ecological and cultural impact.
About the Role
This diverse role will coordinate community engagement, field monitoring, and data management to support delivery of the Cool Burn Squad's environmental and cultural outcomes. You'll help plan and run workshops and field days with Traditional Owners, landholders and local partners, while also managing systems and data that underpin project reporting and evaluation.
You'll work closely with the Cool Burn Lead, Indigenous partners, communications staff, and technical specialists to make sure information from the field is captured, analysed, and shared in meaningful ways.
This role plays a key part in ensuring the Cool Burn Squad's work on Country is recorded with accuracy, integrity, and respect — connecting stories, data, and outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate project activities and events with Traditional Owners, landholders, and community partners, ensuring engagement aligns with cultural protocols and permission-based sharing.
- Support planning, logistics, and communications for fieldwork, cultural burns, and workshops.
- Capture project stories, photos, and quotes for use in communications and reporting.
- Collect and manage ecological and cultural monitoring data, including vegetation (VegCAT), soil assessments, photo points, and fire mapping.
- Maintain accurate and well-structured records using SharePoint, CRM, , and Microsoft 365.
- Summarise and visualise project data to inform reports and stakeholder updates.
- Align monitoring and reporting with frameworks such as EMSA, TERN, and Accounting for Nature (AfN).
- Contribute to progress reports, milestone updates, and presentations that combine data insights with on-ground stories.
About you
You're a confident communicator and a methodical organiser who's as comfortable analysing field data as you are working with community partners. You manage complex information with care, tell clear stories from data, and work respectfully in cross-cultural settings.
You bring:
- Experience coordinating or supporting community engagement activities, such as workshops, field days, or partnerships with landholders, Indigenous communities, or local organisations.
- Demonstrated experience in ecological monitoring, data management, or environmental reporting, including use of tools such as VegCAT, TERN EMSA, or Accounting for Nature (AfN) frameworks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365, Excel, GIS mapping, Power BI, or other data visualisation platforms.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in managing and reporting datasets.
- Confidence liaising with Traditional Owners and working within data permission and cultural protocol frameworks
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to summarise technical information for different audiences.
- A team-focused mindset, with flexibility to work independently in both field and office settings.
Qualifications and Desirable Skills
- Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Ecology, Geography, or a related field (essential).
- Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver community engagement activities (e.g. workshops, field events), with clear outcomes and participation tracking.
- Proven ability to analyse and visualise field data, using platforms such as Excel, GIS, Power BI, or other environmental data systems.
- Strong understanding of data quality, metadata, and record-keeping standards to support accurate and auditable reporting.
How to Apply
Please submit your CV and a cover letter outlining your suitability for the role and addressing the 'Key Responsibilities' and 'About You' sections.
