About The Mobile Health Outreach Service (MHOS)
The Mobile Health Outreach Service (MHOS) is a dynamic and innovative after-hours outreach program that takes harm reduction directly to the community. Operating across inner and south-eastern Melbourne, our dedicated team provides life-saving resources, education, and support to people who inject drugs.
MHOS is about meeting people where they are, breaking down barriers, reducing stigma, and delivering care to individuals who may not otherwise engage with health services.
The Role
As a Mobile Health Outreach Service Worker, You'll Be Part Of a Passionate Team That Delivers Frontline Harm Reduction Support Directly To The Community. Working In Pairs From Our Outreach Vehicle, You'll
- Provide injecting equipment and safer using resources to reduce harm.
- Deliver practical, peer-informed education on overdose prevention, wound care, and safer injecting practices.
- Engage with people who inject drugs, sex workers, young people, people experiencing homelessness, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and culturally diverse communities.
- Connect clients with broader health, AOD, and social support services.
- Advocate for harm reduction principles that save lives and promote community health.
This role is hands-on, rewarding, and impactful, every shift makes a tangible difference in people's lives.
About You
You're someone who thrives in dynamic, community-based work and has a genuine commitment to harm reduction and social justice.
We're Looking For Someone With
- A Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs (or equivalent experience)
- Strong knowledge of harm reduction principles and the AOD sector
- Experience engaging with diverse communities, including people experiencing homelessness and mental health challenges
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to connect with people from all walks of life
- Confidence to work after-hours in outreach settings, paired with resilience and compassion
