About the role

We are seeking a part-time Building Trades Assistant to join the team at FIL'S RENOVATIONS in Canberra ACT 2600.

The job will particularly suit you if you are already enrolled (or planning to enroll) in  tertiary Building studies, such as at CIT or University and want "hands on" experience to complement your studies.

In this role, you will  support our skilled tradespeople and, in turn, you will be trained in the use of a variety of tools, materials and methodologies .

What you'll be doing

  • Assisting tradespeople with the installation, repair and maintenance of building components and systems
  • Operating hand and power tools in a safe and effective manner
  • Performing general labouring duties as required, keeping the workplace  tidy and organized
  • Maintaining a high level of attention to detail and quality of work
  • Following all health and safety protocols to ensure a safe work environment

What we're looking for

  • Preferably, but not necessarily, previous experience in a building trades or construction support role
  • Strong practical skills, ability to follow instructions, use of commonsense and initiative to solve problems, ability to forward plan and push work ahead
  • Enthusiasm, Good Communication Skills, Physical Fitness with the ability to perform manual labour tasks
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality
  • A keen interest in the building and construction industry
  • A positive attitude and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • A current driver's licence and the ability to transport yourself to job sites
