Job Description

AECOM's Buildings + Places team is seeking an Associate Director, Building Civil Engineer to lead and shape the delivery of major building and precinct projects across sectors including Aviation, Defence, Sports Infrastructure, Commercial, Health, and Education.

As a senior leader within our Civil Engineering discipline, you will guide a talented team, drive technical excellence and design innovation, and play a pivotal role in advancing AECOM's reputation for delivering sustainable, high-performance infrastructure solutions across Australia's built environment.

How you'll make a difference

  • Lead and oversee the delivery of civil engineering design for building and civil projects, including site infrastructure, drainage, earthworks, stormwater management, pavements, and utilities coordination, ensuring quality, safety, and constructability.
  • Provide technical direction, mentoring, and quality assurance across a small but high-performing team, fostering capability development and maintaining excellence in civil engineering delivery.
  • Champion digital and sustainable design practices, embedding innovation, Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD), and environmental best practices into project solutions.
  • Collaborate seamlessly across disciplines and stakeholders, effectively coordinating civil design with architectural, structural, and services teams to achieve integrated and practical design outcomes.
  • Contribute to business growth and client strategy, supporting proposal development, building trusted client relationships, and identifying opportunities that enhance AECOM's market presence.
Qualifications

The qualities that help you thrive:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, with 15+ years of relevant experience delivering civil design for building projects within consulting environments.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or eligibility and Registered Professional Engineer with the relevant endorsement to work within the building industry; professional membership in an appropriate body (e.g. Engineers Australia).
  • Demonstrated leadership and project management success, with experience managing complex, multidisciplinary projects, coordinating design delivery, and mentoring engineering teams.
  • Strong technical proficiency in Civil 3D, AutoCAD, 12D, DRAINS, and MUSIC, with a deep understanding of Australian building codes, standards, sustainability, and WSUD principles.
  • Excellent communicator and strategic thinker, combining strong interpersonal skills, commercial acumen, and a client-focused mindset with a high level of problem-solving capability and attention to detail
