Drive regional tourism growth for the Great Barrier Reef Region from your office in tropical Cairns

Expressions of interest are now open to join the Superyacht Group Great Barrier Reef as our Group Manager based in Cairns and become the driving force behind regional partnerships that keep the Great Barrier Reef on the global superyacht map

What makes this role extraordinary?

You'll be the key relationship manager for North Queensland's peak marine tourism body, working directly with your members and government funding partners, industry stakeholders, and key industry partners to grow the region's superyacht sector. Based in tropical Cairns, you'll coordinate destination marketing efforts that span from regional partnerships to international trade shows. Your role includes a fully equipped office, parking bay, mobile phone, laptop and administrational support. Your regional focus includes:

  • Maintaining and growing partnerships with Cairns Regional Council and other regional councils of the GBR Region, Ports North, Major GBR Marinas and State Development just to name a few
  • Managing member relationships across the Great Barrier Reef region from Gladstone to the Torres Strait
  • International destination marketing in Tahiti, Fiji and other locations as required
  • Greeting, contacting and supporting visiting yachts to our region
  • Vetting and attracting new members to strengthen our member base and our offering for visiting yachts
  • Advocating for important infrastructure and policy in partnership with other stakeholders

What you'll be doing:

Stakeholder Relationship Management

  • Manage member relationships and grow membership across the region
  • Prepare acquittal reports and funding submissions for local and state government partners
  • Work collaboratively with other peak industry bodies to drive our purpose and goals
  • Ensuring you know your members and the unique offering they contribute to our visiting yachts

International Destination Marketing

  • Travel to international boat shows and trade events with industry peers (May include boat shows in destinations such as Sydney, Gold Coast, Monaco, Fort Lauderdale, Fiji, Tahiti, New Zealand and Thailand)
  • Contribute and collaborate on regional familiarisation trips for international brokers
  • Develop destination marketing content showcasing the Great Barrier Reef region
  • Build relationships with international agents, charter companies and other influential international marine and superyacht organisations

Strategic Regional Development

  • Drive membership growth across North Queensland's marine sector
  • Continue to build and unite a strong marine sector and its associated supply chain
  • Coordinate regional events
  • Recognise media opportunities and use these to promote our region and industry
  • Manage the annual Dockside Event and monthly (seasonal) networking functions
  • Oversee destination marketing campaigns and social media presence

What we're looking for:

The successful candidate would ideally have:

  • Strong stakeholder relationship management skills
  • Experience and proven success in a business development focused role
  • Proven ability to be persuasive and influence decisions
  • Ability to network for the purpose of advancing the interests of others
  • Regional Queensland network connections – extra points for the marine sector
  • Experience or refined understanding of working with an executive management committee in the not-for-profit sector, governed by a constitution
  • Strong proven strategic business acumen with the ability to think outside the box
  • High standard of professionalism and personable nature
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Passion and drive to succeed for the benefit of your region
  • Good financial management and experience working to a strict budget
  • Experience working with government bodies, councils, or funding organisations
  • Event management and destination marketing experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Project management capabilities with strong attention to detail
  • Membership organisation or industry association experience preferred but not essential
  • Willingness to travel internationally for destination marketing purposes
  • A current passport and police clearance

Bonus points if you have:

  • Tourism or economic development background
  • Government relations or funding acquittal experience
  • Marine industry knowledge and experience
