The Opportunity
SunPork Consolidated Pty Ltd is seeking a Pig Farmer to assist with the day-to-day operations and management of our Thyra Facility through ensuring the health, welfare and productivity of our pigs by providing daily care, feeding, monitoring for signs of illness and maintaining clean and safe living conditions. This position is full time and will be based out of our Piggery in Thyra, New South Wales.
Responsibilities, tasks, and duties:
Reporting to the Production Manager, this position plays in important part in ensuring smooth operations across the farm specific to the piggery and farm operations.
This position will be required to carry out the following tasks:
- Prepare and distribute appropriate feed rations to pigs according to their age, weight and health status
- Monitor feed and water intake, ensuring all pigs have access to clean water and sufficient feed
- Maintain records of feed usage and report any issues or shortages to the supervisor
- Monitor the health of pigs, identifying any signs of illness or distress
- Administer medications and vaccinations as required
- Assist with breeding and farrowing (birthing processes)
- Implement biosecurity measures to prevent disease spread
- Clean and sanitise pig pens, equipment, and facilities regularly to maintain hygiene standards
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance of piggery infrastructure
- Ensure proper waste management and disposal
- Maintain accurate records of animal health, treatments, breeding and farrowing
- Record daily activities and any incidents in the piggery
- Report any abnormalities or issues to the farm manager promptly
- Assist with the movement of pigs within the facility
- Support in the implementation of farm management plans and improvement initiatives
- Participate in training and development programs as required
- Perform routine maintenance and remove faulty or damaged equipment
- Assist with overseeing and/or training employees
Qualifications and Experience:
Our preferred candidate will have the below:
- Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture, Animal Science or equivalent
- 3-5 years' of experience in the pork production industry
- Drivers licence
- Ability to work within small time frames and provide prompt responses
- Availability to work regular rostered weekends and public holidays
- Be physically fit and able to cope with the physical demands of the role
- Manage the implementation and maintenance of WHS and environmental requirements
- Promote and maintain animal welfare standards
- Carry out any other reasonable lawful directions that may be given from time to time by the company
- Able to work individually and as a part of a team
