Job Overview:

We are seeking a motivated and reliable Nursery Team Member to join our team. As a key member of our nursery crew, you will assist with the day-to-day operations of the nursery, ensuring the healthy growth and maintenance of a variety of tree species. The ideal candidate will have an interest in horticulture, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work efficiently in a physically demanding outdoor environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Tree Care & Maintenance:

  • Planting, transplanting, and potting trees.

  • Pruning and trimming trees to encourage healthy growth.

  • Watering, fertilizing, and ensuring trees receive appropriate care.

  • Nursery Upkeep:

  • General maintenance of the nursery grounds, including weeding, stock movements.

  • Cleaning and organizing tools, equipment, and growing areas.

  • Ensuring that trees and plants are properly labelled for identification.

  • Pest & Disease Management:

  • Monitoring for pests, diseases, and environmental stressors.

  • Assisting in the implementation of pest control measures and treatments.

  • Physical Labor:

  • Lifting, moving, and handling trees and heavy containers.

  • Assisting with loading and unloading trees for transport.
  • Using lifting aids to complete tasks.

Qualifications:

  • Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting heavy objects, bending, kneeling, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Experience: Previous experience in horticulture, landscaping, or similar outdoor labor is a plus, but not required.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to spot issues such as pests, diseases, or improper growth and take appropriate action.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work well in a team environment, as well as independently when needed.
  • Communication Skills: Good verbal communication skills for interacting with team members and customers.

Preferred Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of tree species, growth patterns, and nursery practices.
  • Familiarity with gardening tools and machinery (e.g., pruning shears, watering systems).
  • Machinery operation experience (desirable but not required).

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift, manoeuvre and use mechanical lifting aids for transferring trees.
  • Ability to stand, bend, squat, and kneel for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
