Role Description

This is a
full-time role
for a Family Lawyer based in Melbourne. You will manage a diverse range of family law matters, provide tailored legal advice, and represent clients in court. The role involves drafting legal documents, negotiating settlements, instructing counsel where required, and collaborating closely with other legal professionals. You will have regular client contact, conduct in-depth case research, and stay up to date with developments in family law.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage family law cases end-to-end, including advice, negotiation, and litigation.
  • Draft legal documents and correspondence with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Appear in court and instruct counsel as necessary.
  • Negotiate settlements and deliver practical, client-focused solutions.
  • Supervise and guide junior lawyers to support their professional growth.
  • Conduct legal research and ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Maintain effective client relationships and clear communication throughout matters.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • 3-5 years post-admission experience
    in Family Law.
  • Strong knowledge of the
    Family Law Act
    and related legislation.
  • Demonstrated ability in
    drafting legal documents
    and
    advocacy in court
    .
  • Proven experience in
    settlement negotiation
    and providing sound legal advice.
  • Excellent legal research and analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a client-first approach.
  • Ability to manage multiple files and competing deadlines.
  • Experience with
    LEAP
    or
    similar practice management software
  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and a current
    Victorian practising certificate
    .
