Currently, there are around 5.5 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 717,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.

A new role awaits

The Financial Reporting and Control Branch has a new and exciting vacancy as EL1 Assistant Director Financial Governance and Operations.

The branch supports the Agency in financial management and compliance with legislative and policy requirements, including the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act and the National Disability Insurance Scheme Act We provide timely and accurate financial information based on strong financial controls, supporting the agency's decision-making and the Government's objectives for financial sustainability of both the agency and the scheme.

The EL1 Assistant Director Financial Governance and Operations is required to coordinate and assume responsibility to undertake detailed or sensitive projects that may include performing varied activities involving many different and unrelated processes or methods that may impact on the strategic or operational outcomes that support the NDIA's objectives to "build a world-leading National Disability Insurance Scheme".

For applications within the professional job stream the successful applicant must possess and maintain relevant academic qualifications with membership of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA), Certified Practising Accountants (CPA) or other equivalent professional finance bodies (or holding equivalent finance related post graduate qualifications).

  • Leading the planning, preparation, execution and monitoring of internal reporting activities.
  • Management and reporting of the Agency's Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Corporate Credit Cards.
  • Working with our shared services provider to ensure timely payment of invoices to suppliers.
  • Leading the development of team operating procedures and user guides.
  • Delivering various month-end financial reporting and analysis

What we're looking for in our ideal candidate:

  • Background in a Finance Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Credit Card management
  • They will be able to work independently and demonstrate high levels of strategic thinking for decision making, and strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • They will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as they will be working with senior leaders and other stakeholders. They will be able to tailor communication to target audiences, including stakeholders across the agency and Government more broadly.
  • They will have strong leadership qualities, and experience in leading and managing a small but diverse team.
  • They will be able to engage in complex problem solving and issues management

You will need to hold CA/CPA qualifications and be able to provide these at the application stage.

While this role is ideally performed from Geelong - VIC, Richmond - VIC, Deakin - ACT, Robina - QLD, Brisbane - QLD & Surry Hills - NSW, remote working arrangements may be considered. We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check (where required) and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
