Are you a strategic thinker with a passion for spatial analytics and urban planning? The City of Moreton Bay is seeking a Strategic Planning Spatial Analyst Lead to provide leadership and technical oversight in the delivery of expert spatial services, with a focus on New Planning Scheme preparation over the next five years.
This pivotal role will lead a team of specialist Spatial Analysts, delivering high-quality spatial services to the Strategic Planning and Place Making (SPPM) team, and occasionally to the broader Planning Directorate. You'll play a key role in shaping the future of our city through delivery of spatial analytics and mapping solutions supported by governance and quality control.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team of specialist Spatial Analysts undertaking the delivery of expert spatial services
- Lead the delivery of complex spatial and non-spatial data analytics using tools such as ArcGIS, Python, SQL, and R.
- Provide expert advice on spatial data capture, mapping services, metadata creation, and data governance.
- Oversee statutory mapping and GIS layer governance for the New Planning Scheme and future planning scheme amendments.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to meet mapping and GIS requirements and track key milestones.
- Represent the department on various projects, offering strategic and technical advice.

You are a strategic and technically skilled professional with a passion for urban planning and spatial analytics. Your expertise spans across GIS technologies, data modelling, and stakeholder engagement, and you bring a collaborative mindset to solving complex spatial challenges.
You will bring:
- Expert knowledge of urban planning principles and experience in urban planning projects.
- Advanced proficiency in Geographical Information Systems (GIS), including spatial data capture, mapping, and governance.
- Strong analytical skills with experience using software tools for spatial data manipulation and presentation.
- Technical expertise in programming languages such as Python, SQL, and R, and familiarity with 3D modelling and ArcGIS Online/Enterprise.
- Project leadership experience, including risk management and delivery of complex spatial solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex planning concepts and negotiate sustainable outcomes.
- Proven ability to provide leadership through change and uncertainty in a rapidly evolving policy environment.
- A collaborative approach to building relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
