Education Services Australia (ESA) is a ministerial not-for-profit company committed to making a positive difference in the lives and learning of Australian students. ESA delivers products and services for clients including the Australian government, State and Territory education authorities, and a variety of not-for- profit and government organisations.

The Systems Development team is responsible for the development of all in-house development projects, and maintenance of all ESA managed applications.

We're looking for an experienced Java Full-Stack Developer who thrives in a collaborative environment and is ready to help shape robust, user focused applications that make a real difference.

The role

The Java Full Stack Developerwill support the team with developing new projects and the maintenance of our current education projects and services, that  provide resources to support teachers and families throughout Australia.

You'll be required to:

  • Work with Business Analysts, Project Managers, Developers, and Testers to ensure that all development work meets the agreed-upon standards and requirements
  • Create code that is efficient, reusable, and dependable
  • Provide an estimate of work for technological solutions
  • Create documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments, and clean code to describe and demonstrate solutions
  • Investigate incidents and provide a report for each one
  • Upgrade Java 7/8 applications to the newer version of Java.

About you

  • You have strong Java experience in internet based applications using technologies like Spring, Restful APIs, Java/J2EE Hibernate, JQuery and AngularJS. With an understanding of .NET highly desirable
  • You have upgraded Java applications to the newer Java versions
  • High-level of organisational skills and proven ability to manage multiple tasks/projects concurrently within strict deadlines
  • Confident communicator and proven ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders

You have experience in the following:

  • Linux environment, Apache and Tomcat
  • Search databases such as ElasticSearch
  • MS SQL Server and  PostgresSQL
  • Source code management systems (GIT), and Sourcetree
  • Search databases such as ElasticSearch
  • CI/CD such as Jenkins

Highly desirable working experience with:

  • Umbraco CMS
  • Understanding of system security standards
  • CAS - Central Authentication Service
  • Familiarity with library data and standards
