Description of Key Job Duties:

  • Manage the grid connection process for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in Australia, including connection inquiries, GPS submissions, application processes, and National Electricity Market (NEM) registration.
  • Ensure full compliance with Australia's stringent technical standards, safety regulations, and grid access requirements — particularly those related to the Generator Performance Standards (GPS).
  • Provide technical input during early-stage development to assess grid feasibility and connection constraints.
  • Engage and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), Network Service Providers (NSPs), regulatory authorities, and equipment vendors.
  • Coordinate and manage external consultants to ensure timely delivery of high-quality and compliant technical documentation.
  • Support negotiations with AEMO, NSPs, OEMs, and grid consultants throughout various project phases to secure favourable and timely outcomes.
  • Assist construction teams during execution to ensure alignment with grid compliance requirements, hold point testing, and system commissioning.
  • Provide ongoing technical support to asset management and operations teams post-commissioning, ensuring continued grid compliance throughout the asset lifecycle.
  • Work closely with EPC contractors and internal engineering teams to ensure major project milestones and grid deliverables are achieved.
  • Contribute to the selection and specification of substation and switchyard equipment to ensure compatibility with grid standards.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Power Systems, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in grid connection or power systems engineering, ideally within renewable energy or energy storage sectors.
  • Proven expertise in navigating Australian grid connection frameworks, including in-depth understanding of GPS processes, NEM procedures, and regulatory expectations.
  • Hands-on experience engaging with AEMO, NSPs, and regulatory bodies on grid connection applications and compliance.
  • Proficient in power system modelling and analysis.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills, with a track record of successful project coordination.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in a cross-functional and multicultural setting.
