As a Lecturer in Ecosystem Conservation Science, you will advance global biodiversity policies and frameworks through impactful research and teaching , including the IUCN Red List of Ecosystems and Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity . You'll collaborate with industry, government, and community partners, creating new conservation opportunities locally and internationally. This role also offers the chance to complement Professor Emily Nicholson's research program and contribute to the Faculty's mission while developing your academic career.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Design and Deliver Curriculum: Develop and teach engaging courses in conservation and ecosystem science, ensuring high-quality learning experiences and student satisfaction.

  • Conduct Competitive Research: Collaborate on research projects, publish in leading journals, and present findings at conferences to advance knowledge and public awareness.

  • Contribute to Research Proposals: lead and collaborate in the preparation of research proposal submissions to internal or external funding bodies.

  • Mentor and Support Students: Provide academic guidance and supervise honours, postgraduate coursework, and research students, supporting timely completion.

  • Leadership and Service: Participate in school meetings, contribute to planning activities, and uphold University values of diversity, inclusion, ethics, and integrity.

You are an accomplished ecosystem conservation scientist with a PhD in applied ecology or a related field, skilled in quantitative methods, and passionate about advancing conservation science through innovative research and teaching.

  • Possess skills in quantitative applied ecology and ecosystem science.

  • Have a proven track record in developing engaging undergraduate and graduate teaching programs.

The School of Agriculture, Food and Ecosystem Sciences (SAFES) has a vision of flourishing environments and communities. The School brings together diverse discipline strengths to lead the development of new interdisciplinary thinking and high-impact solutions for global challenges relating to climate change, food security, healthy food systems, biodiversity conservation, sustainable forest management, invasive species, and environmentally and economically sustainable agricultural practices. Our expertise spans biophysical, social and technical sciences, and we support a large cohort of PhD students across these domains .

The School teaches a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including the Bachelor of Agriculture, several majors of the Bachelor of Science and, and six Master coursework programs: Master of Agricultural Sciences, Master of Ecosystem Management and Conservation, Master of Food and Packaging Innovation, Master of Food Science, Master of Urban Horticulture and Master of Environment.
