The Role

As an EL 1 Data Analyst, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping service delivery by transforming complex data into actionable insights. Your work will directly influence executive decision-making, policy development, and program performance across the department.

The role will undertake the following duties:

  • Work with data and large databases, including data manipulation, interrogation and validation.
  • Undertake research, statistical analysis and interpretation of data.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to influence outcomes and ensure the branch data program aligns with the strategic direction of the enterprise and broader government.
  • Lead delivery of branch and enterprise reporting and data governance activities including audits and performance reporting.
  • Communicate research findings and insights through data visualisation, workforce reports and clear written and verbal explanations of data sources, methods and results.
  • Build workforce data literacy by delivering training, and shaping the data culture needed to inform timely evidenced based decision-making.

This role offers the opportunity to lead initiatives that build data literacy and foster a culture of evidence-based decision-making. You'll deliver training, mentor stakeholders, and champion best practices in data governance and reporting—empowering teams to make smarter, faster decisions.

From performance reporting and audits to geospatial analysis and Power BI dashboards, this role provides a rich analytical landscape. You'll work with large datasets, apply advanced statistical techniques, and leverage modern tools like DAX and Power Pivot to deliver high-impact visualisations and reports.

About our Team

DMFS enables Defence capability by supporting Command and empowering ADF members and families to successfully navigate military life through the provision of access to support services and programs having regard to lifetime wellbeing.

The team is responsible for the conversion of the branches' manual processes into a case management system/workflow tool (Dynamics 365 power apps platform) as well as the business intelligence function for the branch. The team is responsible for the branch data and the system that captures the data. The Dynamics 365 suite of programs including Data verse and Power BI to store and report our data is used as the branch's primary system suite.

The branch has commenced a process to apply a program logic to DMFS programs and services with the aim to mature the measurement and evaluation of DMFS programs and services.

Our Ideal Candidate

Our ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Experience delivering reporting and analysis of data to support internal and external stakeholders.
  • Relevant experience developing performance measurement metrics related reporting.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, data management practices, and enabling technologies.
  • Skills in accuracy, usability and continuous improvement.
  • Qualifications or experience using Power BI including the use of Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) - formulas and expressions, Analysis Services and Power Pivot.

Experience in geospatial data analysis, would be desirable, but not essential.
