For more than 40 years, the North Qld Export Terminal, located at the Port of Abbot Point, has demonstrated its commitment to safety, efficiency, responsibility, and partnership with the local community.

APO has been contracted by North Queensland Export Terminal Pty Ltd to manage operations of it's coal export terminal at the Port of Abbot Point—Australia's northernmost coal port—located 25 kilometres north of Bowen, between Townsville and Mackay, serving as the gateway to the Whitsundays.

Abbot Point Operations has an exciting opportunity for a Production Operator to support safe, efficient, and compliant terminal operations. As a Production Operator, you will play a key role in the effective running of the production area by following safety procedures, operating fixed and mobile plant, conducting work area inspections, performing manual handling tasks, and meeting operational deadlines. You will ensure all activities comply with company quality and safety standards while contributing to the overall success of Port Operations.

What You'll Do:

  • Safely operate heavy equipment, fixed plant, and mobile machinery within the port environment
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping and ensure work areas are clean, safe, and compliant
  • Assist with production flow and collaborate with the Supervisor to identify and resolve process or equipment issues
  • Work in accordance with all department procedures and company policies
  • Interface with shipping, including deballasting, loading, and communication with captains and crews
  • Record ship hatch totals and confirm train movements and consignment notes
  • Liaise with AMSA, Border Force, Biosecurity, surveyors, Southern Cross, samplers, security, and other on-site contractors
  • Actively contribute to a workplace culture where WHS is given the highest priority in all activities.

What We're Looking For:

  • Proven experience in maritime bulk-handling, loading facilities, or heavy industry
  • Sound computer skills, particularly MS Word and Excel; SAP experience is desirable
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interpret work instructions, procedures, and operational information
  • Ability to obtain an MSIC
  • Current driver's licence and White Card (essential)
  • Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices, teamwork, and reliable performance
  • Flexibility to work a day/night lifestyle roster.
