About the Role:

The Queerspace Youth Services team delivers responsive,
intentional, and evidence-based programs. Our activities are delivered within a
public health framework, focusing on prevention and early intervention. These
efforts strive to build and enhance the innate resilience of queer young people,
their families and communities. Our programs are open to LGBTIQA+ and QTIPOC+ young
people. Our service prioritises and seeks to assertively engage First Nations
young people, young people of colour, public housing residents, and
international students identifying as LGBTIQA+.

The Youth Engagement Peer Worker is responsible for co-delivering
activities and programs.  This includes preparation,
facilitation, debriefing, administration duties, promoting positive engagement
and positive role modelling. This role also includes digital marketing design
and development: managing social media accounts, graphic design, identifying
media opportunities, managing a subscriber base and increasing online media
presence.

Your Responsibilities

  • Facilitate youth programs and activities that assertively
    engage LGBTIQA+ and QTIPOC+ young people, with the aim of building resilience,
    reducing social isolation and supporting healthy development
  • Continually collaborate with workshop participants and other
    young people to co-design workshops and other community events, ensuring
    program offerings remain relevant and fit-for purpose
  • Actively contribute to the Queer Youth Services team's
    activities across the public health spectrum, including in health promotion,
    early intervention, and prevention activities
  • Provide individual support to workshop participants who
    require additional assistance, including peer support, psychoeducation,
    material aid, life skill development and LGBTIQA+ specific support
  • Utilise your own lived experience to provide peer support to
    workshop participants
  • Maintain and grow the presence of Queerspace Youth and
    (in)Visible through digital marketing and social media promotion

Key Selection Criteria:  All of the following must be
addressed in your application to be considered.

  • You are aged 18 to 30
  • You belong to and actively participate in the LGBTIQA+
    community
  • You can demonstrate an awareness of issues faced by LGBTIQA+
    young people
  • You possess a genuine interest and commitment to working
    with First Nations young people, young people of colour, public housing
    residents, and international students identifying as LGBTIQA+.
  • You can demonstrate ability to plan and deliver programs,
    events, or activities with children and/or young people
  • You have skills and experience with graphic design and
    social media promotion

  • Tertiary qualifications in youth work, social work,
    psychology or a related field
