About the role

As the Leading Hand Urban Forest, you will be responsible for leading a small team in performing juvenile tree care, maintenance and establishment of the City's street tree assets. Reporting to the Supervisor Urban Forest, this full-time permanent position also delivers exceptional service to community members through effectively actioning service requests.

A snapshot of your new role:

  • Lead a small team to carry out preliminary tree inspections, small tree removals, collection and disposal of branches, formative pruning, planting, mulching, staking and fertilising
  • Ensure daily maintenance and inspections of vehicles, plant and equipment
  • Safely use hand and power tools to formatively prune, shape and manage young trees
  • Accurately report and document team time-sheets and daily activities
  • Sound organisational skills - able to plan and prioritise work
  • Assist in responding to and investigating tree management enquiries from the community
  • Where appropriate, guide community members on tree care practices and preservation

Who we're looking for:

  • Certificate III in Arboriculture or Horticulture (or working towards)
  • Current 'C' and 'MR' class driver's license
  • Extensive knowledge and a passion for trees including species identification and growth habits
  • Well-developed team leadership skills and ability to foster team accountability and collaboration
  • Sound literacy and numeracy skills, including use of mobile digital technologies
  • Able to effectively communicate with community members on tree related issues
  • Physical stamina and the ability to perform manual labour in various weather conditions
  • White Card
  • Satisfactory National Police Clearance (under six months)
