Hancock Energy has a full time opportunity for a Drilling Superintendent to join a growing team supporting onshore oil and gas projects throughout Western Australia.

The role supervises the execution of drilling and completions projects and ensures that all operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in an environmentally responsible manner, in full compliance with company policies, procedures, applicable government regulations and our Well Design and Construction Workflow and Standards.

Additionally, the Drilling Superintendent, in conjunction with other Drilling & Completions team members, ensures that well designs are achievable and supported by sound engineering, while maintaining operational excellence and contractor performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set clear expectations for Wellsite Supervisors, Rig Contractors and Service providers on safety, operational, and cost performance.
  • Review and approve rig inspections, incident investigations, and safety meeting reports, ensuring timely closure of deficiencies.
  • Routinely visit the wellsite and service providers to verify compliance with company policies and operational protocols.
  • Ensure that operational, financial, safety, and environmental goals are clearly defined and achievable for each project.
  • Approve all well design changes through the Management of Change (MOC) process.
  • Ensure adequate contingency planning for all drilling and well operations.
  • Ensure quality control in the selection of rigs and ancillary equipment, including writing rig acceptance criteria and overseeing inspections before rig acceptance.
  • Prepares technical scopes for and evaluate tenders. Acts as technical representative for certain contracts.
  • Evaluate the competence of service providers' personnel, both at the rig site and at their operational bases.
  • Understand key contractual terms and conditions and ensure providers comply with their obligations.
  • Monitor drilling performance, including Non-Productive Time (NPT) and service quality, and implement improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure lessons learned and best practices are captured and applied to future operations through rigorous application of the Hancock Energy's continuous improvement process.
  • Maintain accurate operational reporting and effective communication with office-based teams and stakeholders.
  • Prepares and presents content for, or participates (as required), in well design and assurance reviews, operational reviews, risk assessments, HAZIDS and operational reviews.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Strong individual contributor - Responsible for delivery of own results to support Hancock Energy achieving its goals
  • At least 10-15 years' experience as a Drilling Superintendent and operations engineer in the oil and gas sector, preferably onshore in active operating environments (drilling, testing and exploration).
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a related discipline or significant lived experience.
  • IWCF Level 4 - Surface BOP
  • Diligent and passionate with proven experience in working within a small team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and open communication skills.
