About the Role

As our
Associate Director, Finance Business Partnering
, you'll play a key role in strengthening the Department's financial management capability and supporting executive decision-making.

You will lead financial planning, analysis and reporting across an operational group, providing high-level ad hoc and routine advice to senior executives on budget performance, forecasting, and financial risk management. You'll also contribute to our ongoing finance transformation, driving improvements in forecasting accuracy, reporting insights and business partnering practices across the Department.

This role sits within the Finance and Operations Branch in the Corporate Services Group, which provides financial governance, analysis and operational support to the Premier's Department and its portfolio agencies.

We're Looking For

We're seeking a proactive and collaborative finance leader who can influence, educate, and partner effectively with executives in a complex, high-performing environment.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Leadership and people management:
    Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and develop a small team to deliver timely, accurate, and high-quality analysis and reporting
  • Strategic financial acumen:
    Extensive experience leading budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance management in a large and complex organisation, preferably within the NSW public sector or equivalent government environment
  • Business partnering capability:
    Demonstrated success in building trusted relationships with senior executives, providing strategic financial advice that informs decision-making, and embedding financial accountability across the business
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills:
    Advanced ability to interpret and model financial data, identify key trends and variances, and develop meaningful insights that support strategic and operational planning
  • Financial governance and compliance expertise:
    Strong understanding of financial management frameworks, Treasury circulars, and relevant accounting standards, with the ability to ensure sound financial governance and risk management
  • Communication and influencing skills:
    Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex financial information clearly, persuasively, and with impact to non-financial audiences
  • Change and transformation mindset:
    Experience supporting or leading finance transformation, continuous improvement, or systems implementation initiatives that enhance forecasting accuracy and business insight.
  • Qualifications:
    Tertiary qualifications in accounting, finance, commerce, or a related discipline are essential. Membership of a recognised professional accounting body (CA, CPA or equivalent) is highly desirable.
