The Empress Hotel in Fitzroy North is looking for a Duty Manager to join us for anywhere from 15-20 hours a week with a view to more hours in the future.

We're a corner pub with a focus on craft beer, good food, and a small but considered wine list.

We're looking for someone who loves customer interactions and delivering great experiences. Someone who is kind, reliable, and keen to take charge of service a few nights a week.

We believe in a strong work life balance, investing in good employees, and rewarding initiative with support and encouragement.

We are looking for someone with industry understanding and common sense; we need to trust that the lights will get turned down and music turned up throughout an evening's service. We seek someone with a great eye for creating space and atmosphere.

We are fiercely protective of the supportive, inclusive environment that we have all worked hard to foster – there is no place for toxicity, we respect one another and expect to be respected in return.

Position Duties:

  • Run service, liaising with FOH & BOH staff to ensure excellent standards of service and customer satisfaction are met.
  • Proper cash handling procedures and cash control.
  • Complete nightly service/takings summaries.
  • Handling enquiries, taking bookings, and setting floor plans.
  • Trouble shooting: show a capacity to understand and learn about Sound /TV/EFTPOS/Beer/POS systems and take steps to solve problems.
  • Run staff, making sure venue cleanliness standards are met and staff are fulfilling what is required of them.
  • A knowledge of product and an urge to pass that knowledge on to those around you.
  • Be creative: we are very excited to hear new ideas and to see them come to fruition.
