Our vision is to be a world-leading University for our regions and creating a better future for our regions and the globe. Underpinned by this vision are our values of excellence, equity, engagement and sustainability.

At the University of Newcastle, we're committed to equity, excellence, and engagement. Our Central Coast MakerSpace is a vibrant, co-managed facility within the Gosford Regional Library, designed to empower students, staff, and the wider community through hands-on access to emerging technologies and collaborative learning.

About the role

We're looking for a MakerSpace Technical Officer to co-lead the day-to-day operations of this dynamic space. You'll design and deliver engaging workshops, support users with a wide range of creative tools—from 3D printers to embroidery machines—and help foster a culture of innovation and inclusion.

What You'll Do

  • Coordinate the MakerSpace's daily operations, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environment.
  • Design and deliver creative workshops and pop-up events that promote digital literacy and hands-on learning.
  • Support and mentor Student Peer Support Assistants, including rostering and training.
  • Collaborate with University and Gosford Regional Library staff to develop programs and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain equipment, escalating issues when needed.
  • Promote the MakerSpace through social media and community engagement.
How will you inspire us?

You're a tech-savvy, people-focused professional who thrives in creative environments. You enjoy working collaboratively and are passionate about helping others learn and explore.

You'll have:

  • A degree with relevant experience, or a diploma with at least 2 years' experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of educational technologies and MakerSpace tools (e.g. 3D printers, design software, electronics, sewing machines).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across teams and engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience designing and delivering workshops or training sessions.
  • A commitment to equity, diversity, and creating culturally safe spaces.

We provide opportunities for all people regardless of their background and experience, and this philosophy is reflected across all that we do.

The University of Newcastle is an equal opportunity employer committed to equity, diversity and social inclusion. Women and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates are particularly encouraged to apply.

Why join us?
  • A supportive and inclusive team environment.
  • Opportunities to innovate and shape a growing service.
  • Access to professional development and university benefits.
  • A chance to make a real impact on student experience and community engagement.

The remuneration for this position is from $80,972 FTE +17% superannuation and is commensurate with skills and experience.
