About the role:

Reporting to the Building Coordinator and Senior Building Surveyor, you will be responsible for providing specialist technical information on building and related matters. Some of your duties will include:

  • Assessing and processing building and demolition applications under the WA Building Act.
  • Issuing permits and certificates in line with the Building Act 2011 and Building Regulations 2012.
  • Conducting site inspections to ensure buildings meet approved plans and safety standards.
  • Providing expert advice to builders, architects, engineers, and the public.
  • Carrying out swimming pool pre-inspections and inspections.
  • Investigating illegal or unsafe building activities and representing the City in legal matters when needed and support the Compliance team with legal matters as required.
  • Delivering excellent customer service and contributing to the smooth running of the Building Services team.

What you'll bring to the role:

  • Working knowledge of the National Construction Code of Australia and all relevant legislation.
  • Well-developed written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Sound knowledge of the statutory and legal requirements of the position of Building Surveyor.
  • Basic understanding of Town Planning procedures and Planning Scheme.
  • Level 1 and 2 Building Surveyor's Certificate of Accreditation and Level 3 Technical Officer Certificate of Accreditation from LGIRS.
  • Tertiary Qualification(s) within Building Surveying discipline.

Pre-employment Requirements:

  • Current C Class Driver's Licence.
  • National Police Clearance (less than six months old).
  • Proof of right to work in Australia.
  • Pre-employment medical (arranged and paid for by the City)
