ABOUT THE ROLE
The Venue Manager of Headquarters Tavern will lead the daily operations of the Headquarters Tavern (HQT), ensuring a high-performing, compliant and customer focused venue experience. This role is responsible for driving financial performance, maintaining exemplary regulatory and compliance standards, and fostering a strong culture of leadership, accountability and service excellence. The position plays a critical role in the delivery of the Victoria Racing Club's (VRC) commercial objectives, in collaboration with internal VRC departments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & People
- Lead, motivate, mentor and support the HQT team to deliver exceptional customer service and operational outcomes.
- Champion a positive, safe and inclusive workplace culture.
- Drive team engagement, retention and performance through effective communication, training and development.
- Lead by example in demonstrating VRC's values and service standards.
Operational & Financial Performance
- Deliver on financial objectives across all components of the Headquarters Tavern business, including gaming, bar, and events.
- Oversee stock control, cash management and operational efficiency.
- Conduct daily, weekly and monthly performance reporting for EGM – Commercial & Events, highlighting key trends and improvement opportunities.
- Work closely with the finance team in relation to forecasting, budgeting, controls, reporting, invoicing and purchasing.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure full compliance with all regulatory and legislative requirements governing gaming and hospitality operations in Victoria.
- Act as the venue's Responsible Gambling Officer (RGO), ensuring compliance with Responsible
- Service of Alcohol (RSA) and Responsible Gambling Codes of Conduct.
- Maintain proactive relationships with relevant authorities and agencies including the Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC), Liquor Control Victoria, and Tabcorp Wagering.
- Oversee the development and implementation of robust internal controls, compliance systems and audit processes.
- Uphold Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) obligations and ensure a safe environment for staff and patrons.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with patrons, suppliers, and industry partners.
- Work collaboratively with VRC teams, to optimise outcomes and enhance the guest experience.
- Liaise with VRC senior management to deliver on agreed performance targets and compliance commitments.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify and advocate for operational efficiencies, service innovation, and process improvement.
- Monitor industry trends and competitor activity to maintain a leading-edge approach to venue, wagering hospitality and gaming operations.
ABOUT YOU
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Significant management experience in the hospitality industry - combining Food and Beverage, Gaming and Wagering.
- Dynamic, confident and experienced in developing, managing and driving a team to achieve agreed targets
- Ability to support and lead by example, motivating and driving a positive culture.
- Demonstrated high level of customer service.
- Impeccable communication skills needed to interact and collaborate with a wide range of business units, customers and suppliers.
- Manage workload effectively, with guidance from leaders, to maintain a healthy balance between high-quality creative output and personal wellbeing.
- Support an inclusive workplace where diverse perspectives are valued, and feedback is encouraged, constructive, and solution focused.
Qualifications Required
- Current Victorian Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate (RSA).
- Current Victorian Responsible Service of Gaming Certificate (RSG).
- Current Victorian Gaming Employee Licence.
- TAB accreditation.
