Casual Transfer Station Attendant/Operator

Council is seeking applicants to be engaged as casual employees in the roles of Transfer Station Gatehouse Attendants and/or Landfill Operator. These roles will provide relief duties during periods of leave or on an ad hoc needs' basis at the Council's Waste Facilities, including the Ayr, Home Hill, Giru and Clare Transfer Stations and the Kirknie Landfill.

Transfer Station Gatehouse Attendant duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervise customers and any contractors operating at the transfer station.
  • Reject loads of waste that do not meet approved acceptance criteria for the transfer station.
  • Operate associated technology in order to accurately record transaction details, as required.
  • Receive fees and EFTPOS transactions and issue receipts.
  • Maintain hazardous waste collection areas and ensure material is correctly stored.

Landfill Operator duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Controlling and directing general public and any contractors operating on site.
  • Receive and account for money received from customers in payment.
  • Operation of weighbridge and associated technology.
  • Daily pushing, compacting and covering waste, and completing tasks in a safe and timely manner.
  • Completion of daily checklists, leachate level records and banking reconciliation forms.

The ordinary hourly rate for the Transfer Station Gatehouse Attendant is $ The ordinary hourly rate for the Landfill Operator is $45.71. Both rates include the applicable casual loading.
