Sentry/Gas Tester- SHUTDOWN WORK- South Australia

We are currently seeking casual Gas Tester/Sentries for upcoming shutdown work in South Australia from the 4th of November th of November 2025 with future shutdowns in January and February 2026. This position is a FIFO job from Adelaide Airport - you will be required to make your own way to Adelaide Airport.

ISH24 provide teams of confined space sentries to mine sites during shutdowns to assist with their confined space works. Over the past 10 years our operations have grown Australia wide, and we are highly regarded as industry specialist in confined space safety.

A Sentry controls and monitors who goes in and out of the confined space and monitor those inside. A Sentry must always be on duty at all times, and their responsibilities can include:

  • Checking qualifications of workers
  • Ensuring workers are wearing correct PPE
  • Checking that permits and JSA's are in place and signed off
  • Maintaining communication with workers whilst in Confined Spaces to ensure everything is running smoothly

As a minimum you will need to have:

  • RIIWHS202E Enter and work in confined spaces certificate dated within 2 years (or willing to obtain)
  • Current Photo ID (Driver's License, Passport OR Proof of Age Card)
  • Ability to obtain a National Police Clearance

The following are beneficial, however not mandatory:

  • MSMWHS217 Gas test atmospheres (obtained within past 2 years);
  • RIIWHS204E Working safely at heights
  • Current First Aid Certificate

Demonstrated Ability

Successful candidates must:

  • Have previous experience in Sentry duties or an understanding of what the role entails
  • Be safety focused
  • Have the ability to comply with company/site rules & procedures
  • Have excellent communication, literacy & numeracy skills
  • Have the ability to remain calm and show leadership in the event of an emergency
  • Be physically fit and healthy to enable access to confined space locations

Previous experience is an advantage, however not essential. Great work ethic, the right attitude, and the ability to follow instructions and carry out safe work practices is a must. You will need to be able to work as part of a team or autonomously as required. In-house training can be provided for the right people, as well as ongoing support and supervision whilst on the job.
