Docklands, Victoria, Australia AGL Energy Full time $90,000 - $120,000 per year

Join the change. Together, we'll make history

As we keep the lights on for over four million customers and move towards a more sustainable way of life, it's an exciting time to be at AGL. We're re-imagining how homes and business live and work across the country and we want you to be a part of it. This moment will define our time, and your career as you work alongside Australia's best and brightest minds. You'll grow and learn in a collaborative, safe and supportive environment and play your part in changing the course of tomorrow.

Everyone at AGL is an important part of building a better energy future and we want you to join in.

About the role

As a Senior Engineer – Operational Technology (OT), you will play a critical role in supporting the industrial control and monitoring systems that power AGL's gas and renewable generation assets. You'll be responsible for delivering high-level network, server, systems, and application administration services across Australia, ensuring our OT environments remain secure, reliable, and compliant.

This senior position combines technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, including mentoring team members, leading initiatives, and managing complex incidents. You'll be on the front line of operational and cybersecurity investigations—both during business hours and as part of a 24/7 on-call roster—responding to service interruptions, anomalous network activity, and cyber alerts.

Your role will also include contributing to the design, deployment, and optimisation of OT technologies, developing and maintaining documentation, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and legislation. This is a hands-on role in a dynamic operational environment that demands both deep technical knowledge and strong collaboration skills.

About You

You are an experienced OT or IT infrastructure professional with advanced technical skills and a proven ability to work in complex, critical environments. You thrive on solving challenging technical problems, leading initiatives, and ensuring systems run securely and efficiently.

You will bring:

  • Strong experience in network, server, and systems administration within OT or industrial environments.

  • Knowledge of technologies such as firewalls, routers, switches, hypervisors, storage systems, disaster recovery, security tooling, and identity/access platforms.

  • Familiarity with, or working knowledge of, SCADA systems, historian platforms, and engineering software tools.

  • Proven incident response experience, including cybersecurity investigations and containment activities.

  • Skills in patch management, performance monitoring, and compliance with industry standards.

  • Excellent collaboration, leadership, and communication skills to engage with diverse stakeholders.

  • A commitment to safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.

Key Accountabilities

  • Leadership: Mentor and guide team members, fostering an inclusive, high-performance environment.

  • Incident Response: Investigate service interruptions, breakdowns, and cybersecurity incidents; support development and maintenance of incident response plans and playbooks.

  • Network Management: Monitor, troubleshoot, and upgrade OT network infrastructure to ensure stability and security.

  • System Administration: Install, configure, update, and maintain OT systems, servers, and workstations.

  • Patching: Oversee patching processes to maintain system security and uptime of critical infrastructure.

  • Security: Work with the OT Cybersecurity team to implement and maintain protective measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection, and system hardening.

  • Data Management: Ensure integrity, availability, and confidentiality of OT data through backups, disaster recovery, and storage management.

  • User Support: Provide advanced technical support, troubleshooting, and training to OT environment users.

  • Compliance: Maintain documentation and ensure adherence to relevant regulations and standards.

  • Performance Monitoring: Continuously optimise OT systems, analyse logs, and report on performance metrics.

  • Collaboration: Lead cross-functional projects, contribute technical expertise, and engage with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Service & Change Management: Plan and execute changes with minimal disruption; follow service management procedures.

  • Project Delivery: Deliver project-based activities, contribute to engineering/architecture discussions, and review technical designs.

  • Relationships: Maintain strong vendor and stakeholder relationships.

  • Health, Safety & Environment: Promote a safety-first culture and adhere to all HSE policies.

Applications close on Friday 29th August 2025.
