Employment Type: Temporary Part Time until December 2025
Position Classification: Social Worker Level 1/2
Location: Maitland Hospital

Requisition ID: REQ600423
Applications Close: Thursday, 25th September 2025
Where you'll be working:
Join the Mental Health team at The Maitland Hospital. You'll be part of a supportive and highly skilled multidisciplinary team that values collaboration, innovation, and person-centred care. With a strong focus on treatment planning, risk assessment, and working together to achieve the best outcomes for consumers, this role offers a chance to make a real impact.
This part-time position is for two set days each week (Thursday and Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm), ideal for those seeking work–life balance while contributing their expertise in a dynamic and rewarding environment.
About the role:
As a Social Worker at the Maitland Mental Health Unit, you'll play a vital role within a collaborative multidisciplinary team, bringing the psychosocial perspective to care. Your work will focus on addressing psychosocial stressors, championing family and cultural inclusion, and contributing specialist input around family and domestic violence and child protection. You'll also support individuals at risk of homelessness and help people stay connected to their communities by linking them with the right networks and resources.
This is a chance to use your skills to make a meaningful difference in people's lives while working in a team that values collaboration, compassion, and holistic care.
You'll be joining a small, supportive team of two Social Workers within the Unit, with the added benefit of direct professional support from a Senior Social Worker based in the community team. To help you succeed and grow, you'll receive regular clinical supervision, a comprehensive orientation program, and access to ongoing education and professional development opportunities.
This is a role where you'll feel supported, connected, and encouraged to continue building your skills and career.
About you:
We are looking for a Social Worker who brings compassion, professionalism, and adaptability to their practice. The ideal candidate will work from a culturally sensitive and trauma-informed perspective, with the ability to complete thorough psychosocial assessments and engage inclusively with consumers, families, and carers.
You will have a strong understanding of how mental health impacts an individual's life experience and be confident working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders. To thrive in this role, you'll need to be flexible, organised, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment, with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the capacity to balance competing demands effectively.
Requirements:
- Must hold as a minimum a bachelor degree in social work which provides eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers, or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer.
What we can offer you:
At Hunter New England Health, enjoy a career where you're challenged by interesting work and surrounded by spectacular locations. You'll contribute to the team enriching health in millions of ways every day. On top of this we also offer:
