The Opportunity

At Monash University, the Senior Financial Accountant plays a vital role in delivering expert accounting advice and services that support the University's Corporate Finance Division's finance strategy and practice. This position ensures accurate and timely financial reporting, compliance with statutory regulations, and insightful financial analysis to guide key decisions. Engaging with a broad range of stakeholders, the Senior Financial Accountant contributes to the effective implementation of strategic financial initiatives and strengthens the University's overall financial capability.

This position will be responsible for leading complex financial management activities that are aligned to the University's strategic goals. Key responsibilities include managing monthly , quarterly and annual reporting cycles, overseeing the development and maintenance of financial policies and procedures, and ensuring compliance with the latest accounting standards and legislative requirements. The role also involves conducting in-depth financial analysis and modelling to support business decision-making and improve operating performance. With a focus on continuous improvement, the Senior Financial Accountant will maintain financial controls, detailed reconciliations, manage projects that enhance financial processes and practices, while also leading and developing a high-performing team to deliver service excellence and technical expertise.

To be successful in this role you will have professional accounting qualifications with CA/CPA accreditation, and significant experience in a complex, large-scale organisation. Your advanced financial and people management skills will be complemented by a deep understanding of statutory reporting, financial control, and system improvement. Strong analytical, auditing, and problem-solving abilities are essential, along with the capability to lead high-performing teams and communicate effectively across all levels. Your knowledge of integrated finance systems as well as other business intelligence tools ,and ability to manage competing priorities will ensure your success in this critical role.
