Mechanical Fitter – Field Service | Mining, Quarrying & Heavy Equipment

Location: Australia & PNG (Extensive Travel Required)

Roster: As per operational requirements, generally 5:2

Reports to: Regional Manager

Classification: Trades & Services – Maintenance


About the Role

MAXAM is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Mechanical Fitter to join our dynamic team. In this hands-on role, you'll be responsible for maintaining and repairing our fleet of MSU/MPU trucks, forklifts, generators, compressors, pumps, and other critical equipment across Australia and Papua New Guinea.


Key Responsibilities

  • Attend breakdowns and perform preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Operate and maintain MSU/MPU/Blend trucks and associated plant equipment.
  • Complete pre-starts, maintenance reports, and inventory requests.
  • Ensure compliance with HSEQS standards and site-specific safety protocols.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, supervisors, and colleagues.
  • Travel regularly to various depots and mine sites, including interstate and PNG.
  • Managing inventory of critical spares

What We're Looking For

  • Trade-qualified Mechanical Fitter with current HV certification.
  • Experience with MSU/MPU/Blend trucks and auto-electrical work (highly regarded).
  • Pneumatic and hydraulic system experience will be highly regarded
  • Understanding of dangerous goods and explosive precursors.
  • Excellent time management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and unsupervised.
  • Commitment to safety and continuous improvement.

Licenses & Certifications

  • HR Driver's License (Manual)
  • Forklift License (Desirable)
  • Ability to obtain relevant site and security clearances
